HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Construction on a new luxury apartment community in Rockingham County is officially underway.

The Wentworth will be a 271-unit complex from the Cathcart Group, a Charlottesville-based real estate developer. It will be built in the Stone Port area of Rockingham County on 19 acres between Stone Spring Road and Apple Valley Road.

“This will be your typical class A luxury apartment community. So 271 units, 199 of them will be our garden-style apartments which will look fairly similar to the Reserve at Stone Port Across the street. Then we’ll have two other types of buildings, one will be a midrise elevator-serviced building which will have 72 units as well as a four-story clubhouse which is where all of our amenities will be,” said Ann Cathcart, Marketing Manager for the Cathcart Group.

The Wentworth was approved by the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors in late 2022. It will include one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes ranging from $1,600 to $2,600 a month in rent.

The clubhouse at the Wentworth will include a rooftop great room, a luxury kitchen, a widescreen movie theater, a conference room, a business center, a secured access package acceptance space, a game room, a fitness center, and a resort-style swimming pool and spa. Other outdoor amenities will include a playground, a multi-purpose court, a car wash zone, a turf dog park, picnic areas, and electric vehicle charging stations.

The Wentworth will be the second non-undergrad community in the immediate area. It will be similar to another Cathcart Group property nearby, the Reserve at Stone Port, in that it will not offer housing to college students.

“We pride ourselves on that and our sister property the Reserve at Stone Port has done very well with that kind of attracting more families and young professionals, lots of JMU coaches and faculty and staff as well as the older retired community,” said Cathcart. “It’s just a more upscale luxury living experience, you truly don’t have to leave home if you don’t want to.”

With construction underway, Cathcart estimates that the Wentworth will be completed in early 2025.

“Our timeline is currently somewhere in the first half of 2025 we’ll welcome our first residents. I don’t have an exact month for you yet but they’re currently doing site work. They’re getting pretty close to having the site cleared but we have not started pouring or going vertical or anything like that yet,” she said.

Cathcart said prospective residents will likely be able to begin applying for apartments at the Wentworth around nine months prior to its opening.
